Turning a dream into reality required seizing the right opportunity. This customer envisioned enjoying late evenings sipping wine while gazing over Seattle's skyline—just as they did from their rooftop. However, with the view only accessible from the roof, they approached Masterdecks with the idea of building a multi-level deck that would rise above the roofline. We immediately got to work, designing the structure and securing all the necessary permits to bring their vision to life.

We began this project from the top down, focusing on both functionality and aesthetics. To provide solid support for the upper deck while maintaining a sleek look, we used Sky Lift to raise a support beam into place. Afterward, we poured footers and framed the top deck.

Next, we removed the old concrete steps leading into the house to install a new ledger board for the lower deck. This deck was framed using the same posts supporting the upper deck. Before constructing the ground-level platform deck, we poured additional concrete footers.

Our partners at Rock Electric ensured we had ample power to install deck lights and recessed can lights beneath the upper deck. To keep the lower deck dry from the Pacific Northwest’s rainy weather, UnderCover Systems installed an under-deck ceiling, creating a dry, usable space beneath the raised deck.

The results are stunning! By using Timbertech Composite decking, we transformed this backyard into a must-see entertainment space. To provide access to the upper deck, we installed a spiral staircase from Northwest Spiral Stair, and Rescom Railing added an American Structures Design railing made of aluminum and glass, allowing for an unobstructed view of the Seattle skyline. The small touches make a big difference in enhancing the outdoor living experience. We included Tacklife fire pits, a Weber grill, and Armacost recessed lights to complete the project.
