The Dream:
We were thrilled by this client's vision to transform their backyard into the envy of the neighborhood. With a spacious yard and a blank canvas at the back of the house, they had the perfect setup to elevate their outdoor living experience. They turned their modest deck into an expansive, multi-level, multi-season space that takes full advantage of their home’s width. Considering the unique weather and Pacific Northwest rain in Marysville, WA, their goal was to design a space that could withstand the elements while offering year-round enjoyment.
The Build:
Getting this project started required minimal prep work. We quickly removed the old deck and a portion of the siding to install a new ledger board. From there, framing and pouring the concrete footings went smoothly, and the project was well underway. Given the size and span of the deck, we ensured it had ample support to evenly distribute the weight.
Once the deck framing was complete, we moved on to the picture-framed stairs and installed TimberTech Terrain composite decking. Using hidden fasteners for a seamless look, our sister company, Rescom Railing, installed the TimberTech railing with aluminum pickets. With the decking and railing in place, the project really began to take shape, but there was still more to come.
To keep the top level dry, we installed an American Structure aluminum patio cover, designed to resemble a classic pergola while providing complete rain protection. We also added retractable privacy and wind screens attached to the cover for added comfort. Below the deck, UnderCover Systems installed their patented, award-winning system to create a dry, comfortable space underneath.
Rock Electric joined the team to install necessary electrical wiring, adding low-voltage lighting to the stairs and deck, along with strategically placed outlets for future use.
We wrapped up the project by installing a stunning Belgard paver patio. Paired with stone columns surrounding the deck posts, the final result was truly impressive.
The Result:
This project quickly became the talk of the neighborhood, completely transforming how the family uses their backyard while boosting their home’s value. The addition of a Traeger smoker below the deck and a BBQ on the upper level makes both dry spaces perfect for outdoor cooking.
